Media Ownership

Whether you are watching the news, reading a book, digging into a film, or searching the web, chances are high that one of the “big six” media conglomerates are responsible for the content. Since 2004, six mega media companies have taken ownership of what amounts to about 90% of all American media. Globally, there are some ten companies that dominate the media landscape whether through television, print, radio or digital products. Some of these companies are old, such as the largest media conglomerate in the world, Walt Disney Company. Some of these companies are much younger, such as Google. While the internet upstarts do not quite qualify as media conglomerates- their influence is just as ubiquitous.

Below is a list of the largest and most influential of these corporate media behemoths, along with a short list of some of the media properties they own.
